Bob Katter wants cyclone-hit Dunk Island Resort turned into COVID-19 quarantine facility
Federal crossbench MP Bob Katter says North Queensland’s derelict Dunk Island Resort should be resurrected as a COVID-19 quarantine facility for international arrivals.

- Bob Katter wants government funding to rebuild the cyclone-damaged resort to house 200 international arrivals a fortnight
- The resort has been closed since 2011 and is back on the market after its sale to an investment group fell through last year
- Cairns-based airline Skytrans is willing to transport passengers to Dunk Island if the proposal gets up
The resort has been closed since 2011 when it was damaged by Cyclone Yasi and sold to investment group Mayfair 101 in 2019, only to be foreclosed late last year due to failure to meet payment terms.
