“They Better Not Give Me a Ruby Because it’s Not a Title Defense”- Max Holloway – Essentially Sports
Max Holloway expressed a desire to receive a new belt after a potential victory at UFC 251. Holloway squares off against Alexander Volkanovski in a rematch.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway spoke to the media at a recent scrum ahead of UFC 251. The Hawaiian striker was all smiles as he is set to rematch Alexander Volkanovski for the 145-pound belt. Holloway came up short in his last outing against The Great in a decision loss at UFC 245.
Although neither fighter is known to be an excessive trash talker, there appears to be some heat brewing. Both elite featherweights have had choice words for each other in the media leading up to the fight. The two featherweights have a tremendous belief in their abilities and it has shown in various performances.
Blessed has remained steadfast that his second outing against Volkanovski will bear him the results he seeks. He detailed his emotions going into a fight as a challenger, a rare occurrence for Holloway. He expressed to the media via MMA Junkie that he is looking forward to receiving a new gold strap.
At the end of the day its just another fight, the belt is the belt like I said. Ive been telling you guys Im the champion since I was 3-3 in the UFC. Theres just something cool when you win this one at the end, another belt. The UFC better give me another belt.”
The volume striker makes reference to the new system of the UFC when it comes to belts. They now embed a ruby into a pre-existing world title. The earlier system entailed a new gold belt being awarded to the undisputed champion of the organization.
“They better not be like no, you have the belt already, were just going to give you the plaque thing, no. Im taking that belt, theyre going to put it around my waist come this weekend. They better not give me ruby, because its not a title defense. Its a new belt, my friend. I never asked but I think its a new belt, then we go back to the ruby thing.
Chiefly, Max Holloway will have his sights set on more than just a world title come July 11 in Abu Dhabi. A victory over rival Alexander Volkanovski will help to cement his legacy at 145-pounds. Not to mention, possibly set up an epic rubber match for the ages.
