Republicans in the US Senate are being told to vote with their conscience in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has reportedly told his colleagues the decision on whether to convict the outgoing president over the Capitol riot is theirs alone, freeing them from toeing the party line.
