It disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared, but the search for Humpy the humpback whale that journeyed up the East Alligator River continues.

The fate of a 16-metre river whale continues to elude scientists, giving them hope it has headed for Antarctica.

- Humpy was last spotted on November 10 in poor condition after his stunning swim
- Scientists are still searching for signs of life of the humpback whale
- Whales will return around June and it’s hoped Humpy’s dorsal fin may be recognised
Two or three adult whales swam 20 kilometres up the crocodile-inhabited East Alligator River in Kakadu for 17 days in September, stunning experts.
