Mike Pence says using the 25th amendment to remove Donald Trump would defy its purpose. So what is it actually for?

The United States House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging Vice-President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Donald Trump from office, but Mr Pence has ruled it out.
The resolution urges Mr Pence and Cabinet to use the constitutional mechanism to “declare what is obvious to a horrified Nation: That the President is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office”.
It passed 223-205, with Republican Adam Kinzinger defying his party to back the Democrats’ motion.
But in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Mr Pence says it would not be in the best interest of the nation or consistent with the US constitution to remove Mr Trump.
