The stars of Relic open up about the film’s all-too-relatable monster – Nine

What is it about horror movies that is so enticing is it the reminder of your eminent mortality?
Perhaps, though, it’s the new era of horror that draws us, where skinny-dipping teenagers and medicine cabinet mirror jump-scares have given way to more pervasive and relatable yet terrifying societal qualms.
Robyn Nevin, the star of the Stan original horror flick Relic was never particularly drawn to scary movies of the past for this exact reason.
“I haven’t ever had interest in the horror genre, and I don’t choose to be frightened,” she told 9Entertainment.

That’s what makes Relic so different. Rather than attempting to scare us with man-made monsters and evil spirits, it addresses a realistic terror.
Alzheimer’s disease is the monster that is haunting Edna, the story is gripping and tense with an eerie feeling that there’s more to it than just that.
But playing someone who is struggling with Alzheimer’s certainly isn’t easy.
