WA’s coronavirus hard border with Queensland returns as Brisbane prepares for lockdown
Western Australia will reinstate its hard border with Queensland from midnight tonight, WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced.
Key points:
- WA’s open border with Queensland is in doubt ahead of a COVID-19 lockdown in Brisbane
- The WA Government is awaiting health advice before making a decision on new travel restrictions
- Previous outbreaks in other states forced a reimposition of WA’s hard border and quarantine rules
After midnight, only travellers with an exemption will be allowed into WA from Queensland, with Greater Brisbane due to enter lockdown at 6:00pm.
All travellers who arrived in WA from Queensland since January 2 — around 7,500 people — have also been ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of their arrival.
