Around 20 fines were issued by the region’s police force to people breaking rules on New Year’s Eve.

West Mercia Police said “the vast majority” followed the guidelines, which did not allow for group celebrations, but that some people had held gatherings and parties, resulting in fixed penalty notices.
Superintendent Edd Williams said: Were grateful that the vast majority of people did exactly the right thing and stayed home for New Years Eve.
