Returned travellers face six-hour wait times at Queensland coronavirus clinics

The State Opposition has hit out at long wait times for COVID-19 tests and called for more facilities to cope with the surge in demand.

Lengthy lines have been forming at sites across south-east Queensland after health authorities yesterday urged people who have returned from Victoria since December 21 to be tested.

In response, a line of people soon formed to be tested at the only then-open fever clinic — at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

However, the clinic closed at 9:00pm on Saturday night and hundreds were turned away.

Speaking on the Gold Coast today, Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said there needed to be more testing sites that did not require a GP referral.
