Georgia senator David Perdue in coronavirus quarantine ahead of runoff and planned Donald Trump rally
Georgia Republican senator David Perdue is in quarantine just days before the state’s Senate runoff elections after announcing he was exposed to a coronavirus case.
Key points:
- The senator was a close contact of staff worker won contracted COVID-19
- He is contesting the Georgia Senate runoffs next Thursday
- US President Donald Trump has returned to Washington early amid tension with Congress
Both Mr Perdue and fellow Republican senator Kelly Loeffler are contesting the high-stakes runoffs on Thursday.
If both Republican incumbents lose, Democrats will control the Senate.
Mr Perdue’s campaign did not say how long he planned to stay in quarantine, but guidelines of the federal Centers for Disease Control say those exposed to the virus can resume…
