Saudi-led coalition retaliates with airstrikes after attack on airport in Yemen
Saudi-led coalition warplanes have struck targets in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital Sanaa in retaliation for attacks that killed at least 22 people in the southern port city of Aden on Wednesday.
Key points:
- Local media said the planes hit at least 15 locations in the capital
- There were no immediate reports of casualties from the airstrikes
- Three International Committee of the Red Cross staff were killed in the initial attack
The coalition accused the Houthi movement, which it has been fighting for six years, of staging an attack on Aden’s airport just as members of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s new Cabinet arrived from Saudi Arabia, and a second one on the presidential palace.
