Fifth border checkpoint to open as more drivers head for Queensland

Queensland has shut its border to greater Sydney. Those who do enter need to undergo hotel quarantine.

Queenslanders returning from a greater Sydney hotspot needed to fly into the state and pay for hotel quarantine.

Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said a fourth checkpoint, which opened at Kirra about 7am on Thursday, and the new Nerange-Murwillumbah Road checkpoint would relieve traffic congestion.

He said the fourth checkpoint on Miles Street had already eased waiting times.

“It’s been a good result for the local community because those local roads have suffered some congestion over the last 10 days so it should ease,” he said.
