North, west and central Queensland see heavy rainfalls with more forecast for this week

Parts of north, central and western Queensland are expecting more thunderstorms and showers after enjoying a drenching over the Christmas period.

It comes after towns like Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island recorded nearly 193 millimetres and Doughboy Creek, north of Mt Isa soaking up 114 millimetres on Boxing Day.

A severe thunderstorm warning is active for parts of the Central West, which could bring locally heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding to Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra.
