Documentary maker’s challenging mission to film declining sea lion colonies in Great Australian Bight

Carrying 400 kilograms of specialised camera equipment down the steep cliffs of the Great Australian Bight haunted Amelia McCarten’s dreams three years ago.

It was the time when her film crew began capturing the story of Australia’s declining sea lion colonies.

Now a 3D film, the documentary will be released in Australia next month and follows Dirk Holman’s work surveying sea lion populations at one of their last strongholds.
