Lloyd concerned Riewoldt could get ‘absolutely hammered’ after hub hesitancy comments – Fox Sports
Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd holds concerns that Jack Riewoldt’s doubts over entering an interstate hub could come back to haunt the Richmond star.

The Tigers are one of 10 Victorian clubs that have flown to interstate hubs in order to keep the 2020 AFL season alive in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Riewoldt was widely lauded for his honesty during his weekly spot on Fox Footys AFL 360 on Tuesday night, admitting hed second guessed why hed left his family and felt a weight on my shoulders about that.

Round 6
The dual premiership Tiger said he cried like a baby when farewelling his wife and one-year-old daughter.
I think over the whole period here Ill constantly ask myself, Why am I here? What am I actually doing leaving my young family to come up here and play a game? Riewoldt said on AFL 360.
But the club has given me so much over my career that Im truly indebted to them and thats why Im here doing my bit for my football club while trying to do my bit for my family too.

But speaking on Channel 9s Footy Classified, Lloyd said Riewoldt had potentially provided critics ammunition should he and the Tigers struggle to perform over the coming weeks.
We all love the honesty of players and they sort of give us something and we whack them down a little bit, Lloyd said on Footy Classified. But I think what will happen we saw with (West Coast coach) Adam Simpson where he spoke about we want an end date or were going home and because his team didnt play well, (he) absolutely got hammered. I think (that could be the) case possibly with Jack Riewoldt.

The point he made: Why am I here? Im going to keep asking that question. If Jack Riewoldt doesnt perform, I think that interview will be played a little bit, saying: Is his heart in it? Did he want to be there?
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire said Riewoldt was half jocular during the interview, but said some footy fans wouldve felt uneasy about the comments.

What he has to be careful in saying that, Jack, is we are seeing people being locked up, we are seeing jobs going off a cliff, McGuire said. And when players say, I dont even know why Im doing it, theres a pretty easy solution for it and that is when you go into a depression, as were heading into in the old days when the footballers played, they played with broken arms rather than give up their spot and thats where people (would be less accepting).
Can I just say this: 750 other players have been pretty good in this.
Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon added: I thought Richmond got great momentum last week and energy and theyre back so you just want Jack at some point youve got to accept it.
