Man avoids prison after becoming robbery getaway driver for Facebook friend
A Tasmanian man who became an unwitting armed robbery getaway car driver for a man he met on Facebook just weeks earlier has been sentenced to 70 hours’ community service for being an accessory to the crime.

- Benjamin Matthew Cosgrove gave himself up to police after seeing on Facebook his new friend had used a fake gun in a robbery
- Cosgrove waited in the car after driving Nathan Deckers, who he had met on Facebook weeks earlier, to town, the court heard
- Deckers returned to the car, telling Cosgrove to “drive”, which he did at speeds of up to 140kph
Benjamin Matthew Cosgrove, 23, of Ulverstone, handed himself in to police over the incident and pleaded guilty to accessory to robbery and evading police.
