Coronavirus Australia live news: Europe set to approve COVID-19 vaccine before Christmas
Europe is speeding up its vaccine approval process
It looks like Europeans will be the next cabs off the rank when it comes to getting the COVID jab, after the regional drug regulator pushed forward a meeting to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
The European Medicines Agency’s expert panel was due to meet as late as December 29 to evaluate the vaccine, but they’ve brought that meeting foward to December 21.
Once the EMA recommends the vaccine (which is expected, following the launch of immunisation campaigns in the US, UK and Canada), then the European Commission gives things the final tick of approval.
Germany should start giving coronavirus shots 24 to 72 hours after that, which could be as soon as Christmas, according to Health…
