Salvatore Agresta granted bail over Lawyer X scandal pending appeal on drug smuggling convictions

A major ecstasy importer caught smuggling millions of pills in tomato tins from Italy is the latest person to be freed over links to the Lawyer X saga.

Salvatore Agresta was freed on bail by Victoria’s Court of Appeal while he appeals his conviction for the 2007 tomato tins drug import, which, at the time, was the world’s largest ecstasy seizure.

He was released with the promise of a $400,000 cash surety.

Agresta was jailed for 12 years with a non-parole period of eight years…
