Queensland’s deadliest road regions revealed as Commissioner defends border focus

In the past financial year there was a 30 per cent drop in the number of random breath tests conducted, a 28 per cent decrease in mobile phone fined, a 12 per cent decline in seatbelt infringements and an 8 per cent drop in speeding fines.
As at Monday, 260 people have died on the roads this year, a spike of 21.5 per cent compared with the same time last year.
Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the rise in road deaths was “concerning, particularly as at times there has been fewer vehicles on our roads due to the restrictions in place for COVID-19”.
