Hoons on notice as $120,000 cameras go live
Mr Ryan said an already established “working group” were speaking with other agencies to progress stronger hooning legislation along with the 15 cameras.
“This is about, for the first time, [we’ll be] treating hoon offences like we do offences caught on camera for speeding or red lights,” he said.
“The registered owner of the vehicle is to be deemed the driver unless they can prove otherwise.”
“It’s been difficult so far when people deny who the driver is so strengthening the law to owner onus and driver deeming will again be a game changer for police.”
Road Policing and Regional Support Command Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said drivers would normally go to car parks, industrial estates and beaches to hoon.
