Dolphin trapped in rock pool for three days is freed

A two-metre dolphin trapped in a rock pool just off North Stradbroke Island for three days has been freed.

Sea World staff, including a vet, along with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Quandamooka Indigenous staff worked through choppy conditions to free the in-shore bottlenose dolphin at Flat Rock.

Divers spotted the dolphin on Saturday but believed it would find its way out until they returned the following day to find it was still trapped in the 30-metre long pool.

Weather conditions prevented vessel crews from accessing the rock pool, which was 2.5 metres deep, until Tuesday, when rescuers could finally enter and capture the dolphin with nets.
