Queensland COVID patients roll up their sleeves to help others fight disease

“Since we got back and right through this year, we’ve obviously been following all the restrictions and doing things like washing our hands, but it does feel a bit surreal.”
The couple have since reached out to medical researchers to see if they could be of use, saying it’s the “least we can do”.
“We were surprised … when we got home that no one seemed to want us for testing,” she said.
“In the end, QIMR [Berghofer Medical Research Institute] said they’d like us for a study, and we gave eight vials of blood each, which felt fair enough. We had been lucky enough to only have a mild case of COVID-19 and were more than happy to help out with such a simple request.”
