NSW coronavirus scare exposes fragility of WA border as Christmas travel plans left in limbo

From the first day WA announced it was throwing open its doors to at least part of the country, there were warnings of the fragility of that situation.
“I will not hesitate to adapt our measures to protect the health of West Australians,” Premier Mark McGowan said as he announced in November WA’s “hard border” would be replaced by a “controlled border”.
“This includes reintroducing the hard border.”
Anyone in any doubt about that was quickly given a harsh reminder when the gate slammed shut on South Australians just the day after it had opened because of an outbreak in Adelaide linked to hotel quarantine.
