Death of newborn after attempted homebirth ‘preventable’, Busselton inquest told

An obstetrician has told an inquest into the death of a five-day-old baby after an attempted homebirth that the death was preventable.

The baby died in Perth’s Princess Margaret Hospital in 2017 from a brain injury received during birth complications.

The private midwife attending the woman at home called triple-0 as soon as she suspected a rare uterine rupture.

The baby was delivered at Busselton Hospital by emergency C-section but could not be saved.
