Victorian women took a big hit from the pandemic. Here are five Budget ideas that could help them bounce back
From the frontline workers, to home-schoolers, to laid off workers — women have borne the brunt of the pandemic.
The number of Victoria’s females in work plunged 10 percentage points a month after the arrival of coronavirus.
It’s only in the past week that women have struggled back to be slightly better off than men.
The problem is, the sectors hit hardest by the pandemic are those where women are overrepresented — casual and insecure work, caring, hospitality industries and women are most likely to have multiple jobs.
The Victorian Government has pledged to put women at the heart of its Budget on Tuesday, and has already announced some targeted moves like free kinder and social housing.
