Former Leighton executive Russell Waugh arrested over foreign bribery
A former construction giant executive has been arrested in Brisbane over foreign bribery offences stemming from an investigation into Iraqi oil contracts.
Former Leighton Holdings executive Russell Waugh, 54, briefly appeared in Brisbane Arrests Court on Wednesday morning after Australian Federal Police (AFP) swooped on his Annerley home that same day.
His arrest follows an intricate and long-running AFP investigation into foreign bribery.
Two other arrest warrants for men residing overseas have been issued.
In November 2011, the AFP received a report from Australian-registered company Leighton Holdings Limited about alleged improper payments made by Singapore-registered operating entity Leighton Offshore Pty Ltd.
