When ‘ghost nets’ threaten our marine wildlife – who you gonna call?

‘Ghost nets’ are fishing nets that have been left or lost in the ocean – and they can entangle marine wildlife, causing injury and death. Tonnes of abandoned nets are recovered each year in Australian waters.
In the past two months, the ABF maritime vessels, Cutter Thaiyak, Cape Jervis and Cape York, have all retrieved large abandoned fishing nets from the waters north of Darwin and in the Torres Strait.
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority and Maritime Border Command, a joint agency task force enabled by both the Australian Border Force and the #YourADF, cooperate to remove these serious environmental hazards from Australian waters.
