Brisbane doctor Tony Mufutau Oluwatoyin Bakare wins appeal

A Brisbane doctor will be released from prison after the Court of Appeal set aside his conviction for claiming more than $360,000 in false Medicare rebates.
Tony Mufutau Oluwatoyin Bakare was jailed for four years in February after a jury found him guilty of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Bakare, who ran multiple practices in Logan and the Gold Coast, was found to have made 4000 claims for patients he said he had treated while overseas or after they had died.
The 51-year-old appealed his conviction, arguing some evidence had been misconstrued to the court.
On Friday, Queensland’s Court of Appeal allowed the appeal, setting aside his conviction and ordering a retrial.
He is expected to be released on bail.
