Severe storms fizz out after Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan put on alert
Two severe thunderstorm cells that barrelled towards the south-east Queensland coast on Thursday have not quite packed the punch the Bureau of Meteorology anticipated they would.
However, pictures posted to Twitter from Amity Point on North Stradbroke Island show trees ripped from their roots and torn apart by the severe weather.
In the immediate aftermath, the storms knocked out power to about 7000 buildings in the state’s south-east, including almost 1500 in Birkdale in Redland City, nearly 2000 in Brisbane’s Highgate Hill and about 1500 in Wynnum West in Brisbane’s east, according to Energex.
By 7.30pm, there were less than 1300 buildings without power, with the main blackout areas being more than 200 buildings in Cedar Creek in Moreton…
