Thousands of workers have deserted Barangaroo’s offices, but the Planning Minister doubts the huge development will become a “post-apocalyptic urban wasteland”.

Barangaroo’s gleaming office skyscrapers, harbour-side dining precinct, luxury apartments and $2.2 billion high-roller casino and hotel tower were designed to draw 23,000-odd workers and thousands more tourists to one of the most ambitious developments in central Sydney.
But as a regulators inquiry casts doubt over Crown’s ambition to open in December, borders remain largely shut and workers stay away from inner-city offices due to COVID-19, the future of Barangaroo has taken an unexpected twist.
