Leadership turmoil weakens ASIC – The Australian Financial Review
The corporate watchdog is now without two of its three most senior leaders after deputy chairman Daniel Crennan quit over a $70,000 expenses controversy.
Five cases are the subject of civil penalty litigation, one is being considered by prosecutors for potential criminal action and one matter involving the National Australia Bank “fee for no service” scandal copped a $57.5 million civil penalty. Five referrals have been concluded as “no further action”.
ASIC also has another 16 case studies matters under way that emerged from commissioner Kenneth Hayne, including five cases before the courts, three matters being considered for potential criminal…
