The wave of underpayments led to the ombudsman recouping more than triple the almost $40 million it recovered in 2018-19.
While the bulk of the money recovered by the Fair Work Ombudsman comes from big companies reporting themselves, half of the 54 court claims it has filed relate to the fast-food, cafe and restaurant sector.
