Experts worked through the night to refurbish the second of the four original 12-metre long cylinders used to operate the 88-tonne belly gates of the barrage
A five-year major restoration project at the Tees Barrage has reached the half way mark.
Expert engineers from the Canal & River Trust used a 150-tonne crane to complete the latest series of the £3m works.
The carefully managed process involved re-watering the caissons in front of the belly gates and removing the enormous stop planks with the aide of a dive team.
