66-year-old woman raped at popular Townsville park

A woman has been dragged from a popular park walkway and sexually assaulted in a “horrendous’ dawn attack that has shocked north Queensland police.

The 66-year-old woman was attacked by a ‘large man’ and accosted in bushland just before 6am Wednesday, sustaining serious facial injuries while being sexually attacked, Senior Sergeant Scot Warrick told reporters.

The woman was alone in parkland near Victor St, Cranbrook in Townsville, which runs along Ross River.
