One of Australia’s biggest and wealthiest sporting clubs has taken a massive hit from the coronavirus. And membership complications will affect next year’s profit too.

The revenue slump comes despite the club’s membership ranks swelling by close to 10 per cent this year to exceed 100,000 members for the first time.
But a lack of match-day revenue left a hole in the accounts. West Coast played just one game before April 30 and it was played in an empty stadium, denying the club the lucrative income that normally comes from corporate hospitality at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
