Heroes describe surfer’s final moments

A hero schoolboy, an occupational therapist and a tradie have revealed how they desperately tried to save a surfer who was fatally mauled by a shark on the Gold Coast.
In heartbreaking interviews they spoke of the surfer’s final moments to let his family know he was not alone.
Gold Coast real estate agent Nick Slater, 46, was among at least 40 other surfers in the water at Greenmount Beach, Coolangatta, on Tuesday, when he was bitten on the leg by what is thought to be a great white.
