At a time when the code’s coffers are being stretched to breaking point, the game’s top official is desperate to avoid arbitration over its controversial rule.
The RLPA has tried to resolve the issue with the NRL since the competition resumed after the COVID break, but talks have stalled. The process has been ongoing for 18 months.
St George Illawarra’s Jack de Belin and Manly’s Manase Fainu have both been sidelined under the rule, which allows the NRL to stand down players facing serious criminal charges before the judicial process has been finalised.
