Young musicians duped by record labels learn how to navigate the industry

At the age of 16, Ipswich high school student and singer-songwriter Paulina Schuemann, west of Brisbane, has already made a splash on the music streaming site Spotify and radio station Triple J.

“Spotify has been racking up loads of streams which has been awesome,” Ms Schuemann said.

It is a promising start for a teenager with dreams of a recording career.

But last year she had an experience that has become a warning for other young musicians.
