The COVID-19 outbreak led to several industries coming to a grinding halt. One such industry that dealt with the consequences of the same is pro wrestling. Therefore, as a result WWE’s CEO, Vince McMahon, took the executive decision to release Superstars. Some of the wrestlers he let go were Hurt Angle, No Way Jose, and Mike Kanellis.

There are several fans across the globe who are rather happy with the work McMahon has done in the wrestling industry. Unfortunately, not everyone could happily accept his decision to cut contracts short.
Now is a good time to understand that it is not easy for wrestlers to find work in other fields. Furthermore, WWE reported that 2020 will be a year of record profits. But why did WWE decided to release wrestlers of their contract during a time when they actually need the work?
Ryback provides an insight into the financial situation of superstars
Now, former WWE superstar Ryback (Ryan Allen Reeves) did not hold back while addressing this situation on his podcast. He believes the estimated amount saved by WWE by releasing wrestlers stands at $3 to $5 million. However, now that the company has begun its events, the situation begs the question as to why the wrestlers have not been brought back.
I would say that the people they released, from a company standpoint, was probably $3-5 million total just estimating with everyones contracts. It really makes you question why did they get rid of so many people, or why have they not brought them back? No other wrestling company released people during this period.”
The former WWE star discusses the way WWE ensures wrestlers stay within the business but do not pay enough. Therefore, most times when wrestlers leave the industry, they do not have sufficient financial support to keep themselves going.
In fact, wrestlers do not receive sufficient opportunities because of the company.
If you compare it to how they operate that business, what they take from people and what people sacrifice for him to have the wealth that he has, its typically peoples lives. Wrestlers die younger than everyone because of the work schedule and how little he leaves them with how much they actually earn. A lot of them have trouble when they leave there.
There are opportunities they dont get while theyre there because they want to keep them there. They dont want them making too much money. Thats where it gets really frustrating.”
