A new acute mental health facility in Geelong should be opened by 2023.
It is one of four centres announced by the state government for Victoria, with the other four being based at Epping, Parkville and St Albans.
The local facility, at Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre will house 16 of the 120 beds being made available.
Lendlease Building has been appointed head contract to build the facilities, with works to start within months.
