One of Western Australia’s biggest gold miners has suspended work at its Carosue Dam operations after a worker was injured in a “serious incident” on Monday morning.
In a statement, Saracen said it appeared the worker had “fallen from a height” at its Dervish underground mine, which is part of the Carosue Dam operation 120 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.
The company did not reveal what condition the worker was in.
It said an investigation into the incident had been launched.
Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety acting director mines safety Graham James said inspectors were on-site and the departments investigation was ongoing.
The company also halted trading on the ASX until Wednesday.
Saracen purchased the Carosue Dam operation in 2006 and started production in 2010.
In the 2019 financial year, Carosue and Saracen’s other major asset Thunderbox produced a record 355,000oz of gold.
