Woman sacked after being accused of funding Islamic State sues for unfair dismissal

A former federal public servant who was sacked while she was in custody accused of funding terrorism is claiming unfair dismissal.

The five charges against Western Sydney woman Linda Merhi were dropped in November 2019, nearly two years after she was arrested in Guildford.

She was cleared of allegations she used a schoolgirl to send more than $33,000 to the Islamic State group in 2015 but was fired while behind bars.

The case has now made its way to the Federal Court, where Ms Merhi is fighting a decision…
