Wollumbin National Park summit, formerly known as Mount Warning, could be closed permanently

There are plans to permanently close a national park with a summit famous for being the first spot on the Australian mainland to see the sun each day.
Key points:
- More than 100,000 people climb the Wollumbin (Mount Warning) summit each year
- It is considered a sacred place of lore to the local Bundjalung people
- Plans for a permanent closure of the summit have been found during a FOI request
Wollumbin National Park on the New South Wales far north coast attracts more than 100,000 visitors a year and its summit is considered a sacred Aboriginal place.
Documents obtained under Freedom of Information by the Right To Climb website show the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is working on a Wollumbin closure strategy.
