The Wizard from the West, William Pike, cast a spell over punters at The Valley on Friday night with a brave and brilliant piece of riding to deliver talented sprinter Masked Crusader a breakthrough Group 1 win.
In a stunning maneuver which paved the way for victory in the William Reid Stakes (1200m), Pike railed from three back on the fence at the 500m before urging his mount through a narrow gap between Pippie and Portland Sky inside the final 200m.
