A double at Saturday’s Belmont meeting was enough for star WA jockey William Pike to break his own Australian riding record.
Surprisingly, Pike went winless at Pinjarra on Thursday, leaving him one short of the previous record of 234 winners in a season that he set last year at the start of Saturday’s meeting.
Pike had to wait until to the fifth race of the Belmont meeting before getting on the board with a win on the odds-on favourite Truly Great.
