William Edward (Billy) Sing DCM, born in Clermont, Qld, 2nd March 1886, is believed to be the first person of Chinese descent to enlist in the AIF and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions in Gallipoli. Billy died alone and in obscurity at West End, Brisbane on 19th May 1943, aged 57. His memorial can be found in Lutwyche Cemetery, Kedron.
