Widow’s plea after husband dies of brain cancer missed by Bowral Hospital
Mike Atwell knew something was wrong, after suffering weeks of debilitating headaches, trouble speaking and a loss of balance earlier this year.
Key points:
- Three people have been misdiagnosed at Bowral Hospital
- The hospital issued an apology to Mr Atwell’s family
- Health Minister Brad Hazzard declined to comment
But despite three visits to the emergency department at Bowral Hospital in the NSW Southern Highlands within three weeks, he was sent home with painkillers and told to follow-up with his GP.
His determined family would later organise one last visit — this time to a metropolitan hospital in Sydney — where he was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer.
The 73-year-old died within five weeks on June 3.
