The AFL player salary contract freeze is over, but some teams aren’t willing to sign new deals just yet.
AFL salary cap cop Ken Wood has advised clubs to put a five per cent cut clause in all new contracts.
As contract negotiations gather speed across the competition, the league has moved to protect clubs from an expected decrease in the salary cap.
The AFL last week lifted the freeze on player contracts, but without a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and lack of certainty over next years salary cap, it has thrust clubs into a delicate position with their out-of-contract players.
