The federal government has unveiled its controversial plan to build a new gas-fired power station in the Hunter Valley, coming good on its threat to do so last year.
The $600 million plan would see the power station built at Kurri Kurri.
Given electricity is the biggest contributor to Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions, bringing them down by moving away from coal will be essential to reaching net zero emissions, but not everyone agrees gas is the right substitute for the job.
