While some tourism operators have welcomed the news that a dozen Australian travel destinations will receive half-price flights, Flight Centre Australia CEO Graham ‘Skroo’ Turner says it doesn’t benefit travel companies like his.

“It’s better than nothing, but certainly not much better than nothing for us.”

Under the scheme, around 800,000 tickets will be government-subsidised, incentivising travel to Queensland regions including Cairns, the Whitsundays and the Gold Coast.
